CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE ARCHIVE OF OLD ACTIVIST UPDATES

"I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Councilor or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to 'order' than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: 'I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action'; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for someone else's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a 'more convenient season.'"

New Years Resolutions for 2008

There has been plenty of bad news in 2007. We watched our country’s leadership sink to new lows, Iraq is suffering worse than ever, vets with PTSD are abandoned, 1-2 million sub-prime borrowers will loose their homes, nuclear Pakistan is in meltdown, immigrant scapegoating has become the new race card, Guantanamo remains intact, millions more lack health insurance, global warming is accelerating, Darfur-Uganda-blindness, $100 a barrel, educational inequality, San Diego’s forgotten firestorm victims, civil rights diminished, domestic spying increased, the growing class divide, and the spread of world poverty. Ouch!

Let us resolve in 2008 to bring hundreds of new people into social justice activism. Iowa tells us that change is in the air. Let’s resolve to: drive Blackwater out of SD, register new voters, jam the immigrant bashers, celebrate conscious culture, vote without forgetting grassroots mobilizing, insist on universal health care, help SD land a new FM community radio station, and educate, educate, educate. Also, give generously to the orgs and causes you believe make a difference.

Activist San Diego is one of countless orgs ready to jump into the fray, but none can do it without your participation and support. We’d love to have you resolve to work with us to expand the left-progressive movement and widen our outreach. Please let us know that you would like to get involved. Call 619-528-8383 or email us at info@ActivistSanDiego.org

See you at ASD's General meeting on Mon. Jan. 14th? Hope so!
