Blackwater Backs Down! The People Win!

Would Blackwater executives admit that it was the steadfast opposition of the community and grassroots organizing against their plans for a mercenary training camp in Potrero that ultimately led them to issue their statement on Friday that the site no longer met the business plans of the company...?? Not likely. But we know that it was our efforts as a community, banded together and strong in conviction that led to the Blackwater Backdown! Unfortunately Blackwater will rear its ugly head again and when it does, we must be ready to stand against them. And we should be encouraged by the power that we know we possess that they cannot ignore. When we stand together, our efforts reap rewards. We cannot back down - we must continue to come together vigilantly and to use our considerable strength to keep the pressure on! We can win against private mercenaries and, and we can end this war - but only by working together.

Please come together once again next Saturday, March 15th as we join the rest of the country in marking “Five Years Too Many!” Meet us at Fairmount & University at noon and then we’ll proceed to TerAlta Park (Orange & 40th) for a rally where Gore Vidal will be our keynote speaker. Visit activistsandiego.org, or prcsd.org for more information and to download the flier.

Food for Thought

"After failing to anticipate Hamas's victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs.”

-- The Gaza Bombshell David Rose, reporting for Vanity Fair reveals how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza and leaving Hamas stronger than ever.
