Food for Thought

We’re involved in sort of a low… low key war against apathy. I don’t know how you’re doing on apathy over there, but we’ve got a lot of it, boys and girls. A lot of what we do… is designed to… annoy people, to the point where they might… just for a second question enough of their environment to do something about it… you know.

As long as they don’t feel their environment, they don’t worry about it, they’re not going to do anything to change it. And something’s gotta be done before America scarf’s up the world and shits on it!

-- Frank Zappa, BBC 1968, interviewed at end of - "In The Sky" video

~~~~~
This raises the obvious question: why did the Fed, an agency of the US government, use our tax dollars to keep Bear Stearns and its rich managers and shareholders above water? After all, the government supposedly doesn't have enough money to provide kids with healthcare and child care, to guarantee families decent housing or to meet a long list of other needs.
-- Fed up with Wall Street. By Dean Baker March 18, The Guardian Unlimited
TUESDAY, MARCH 25-30th: PEACE EVENTS: Fernando Suarez Commemorate Son's death with 5 Days of actions: March 25-30th. “My Five Year Walk For Peace.” In commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the death of my son Jesús Alberto Suarez del Solar that took place on March 27, 2003, when he stepped on an illegal U. S. cluster bomb during the criminal war in Iraq, and because of the recent racist and immoral acts committed on U. S. soil against immigrants from Mexico and other countries, and due to the U. S. government’s decision to build a border wall that offends human freedom and dignity. We will undertake a pilgrimage as a representation of the suffering felt by our soldiers and by my fellow immigrants. Our message is one of peace, respect for human rights, and opposition to the war, rejection of the border wall and immigration raids.
