May Day, Myskins and Missteps by Blackwater

Cinco de Mayo should be a celebration of the resistance of indigenous and poor people to beat the imperial forces of the aristocracy. Forget the beer and remember the resistance struggle.

May Day 2008 was celebrated here in San Diego with two rallies. Sure the numbers were way down, but the spirit, color and youthful energy bolstered the admiration of organizers and participants alike. The two major rallies were overwhelmingly Mexicano/Chicano/Latino and thoroughly bilingual. The social justice movement has much to learn from the Si Se Puede, Raza Rights and the May 1st Coalition.

The ASD co-sponsored concert with the Prince Myskins and Charlie King is a reminder that progressive culture feeds the soul. The 1st UU hall was packed. We’d love your help to do many more of these types of events. Contact us at info@ActivistSanDiego.org

Blackwater has once again underestimated the determination of activists to deny mercenaries a foothold in the SD border region – or worldwide for that matter. The SDCPJ and ASD members will be among those who will descend on the City Council and Mayor Sanders to ask how Blackwater’s “private vocational school” application was kept below the radar and secret from the public. PLEASE, write or call the City Council before this Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Call the mayor's office: 619-236-6330 and be ready to flood the chambers in the next couple of weeks…stay tuned. "Education functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world."

-- Paulo Freire

"If the situation in Basra goes back to what it was like before, America is likely to blame Iran and carry out a surgical strike on a militant training camp across the border in Khuzestan," said one source, referring to a frontier province.

"The debate over what caused the mortgage mess and how best to fix it is now taking a sharp turn, as new problems surrounding liar's loans and payment-option mortgages reveal the pervasive fraud, lying and deceit that permeated the market at its height."
