| Will
the American people pay attention now? Gas is at $4.45+
a gallon and rising. The price of every thing else is
rising; except for wages. Mortgage defaults have hit
an all-time high. As housing equity plummets so does
borrowing, which fueled the economic “growth”.
Prices of life-sustaining grains have doubled and tripled
around the world and so has hunger and malnutrition.
Wall Street speculators hope to make a killing by hoarding
grain as people starve.
These
are a few of the evil benefits of a “free market”
system. The corporate media assures us that the “free
market” is self-regulating and works in our best
interest. But corporate media is part of the problem.
Free market media has meant mega-mergers. This monopolization
of the media has sucked the marrow out of investigative
journalism and left a propaganda machine in its place.
How can the American people pay attention if the media
has them drinking the Kool-Aid of info-tainment?
Activist
San Diego invites you to participate in the creation
of a media justice movement. ASD will play a role in
developing an interactive communications network through
the Internet. And, ASD is also working on bringing a
new FM radio station to the community. If you want to
lend your talents to this movement, please call us at
619-528-8383 or write info@ActivistSanDiego.org.
On
Monday night June 9th, attend the ASD general meeting
for an interactive discussion of the “Obama Phenomena;
Will it hurt or help the building of a left-progressive
movement?” Tuesday, ASD co-sponsors Jeremy Scahil
on Blackwater and on Wednesday join ASD to demonstrate
against Blackwater. (See details on our home page) Come
to all three, if you can, but do your best… forward
the rest to your friends.

| "Oil
prices shot up more than $11 to a new record above $139
Friday after Morgan Stanley predicted prices would hit
$150 by the Fourth of July. The unprecedented jump is
all but certain to drive gas prices well past the $4
mark in the coming weeks."

Civilians
and combatants, in the eyes of the beleaguered troops,
merge into one entity. These civilians, who rarely interact
with soldiers or Marines, are to most of the occupation
troops in Iraq nameless, faceless, and easily turned
into abstractions of hate. They are dismissed as less
than human. It is a short psychological leap, but a
massive moral leap. It is a leap from killing -- the
shooting of someone who has the capacity to do you harm
-- to murder -- the deadly assault against someone who
cannot harm you.
