“Justice is conscience, not a personal conscience but the conscience of the whole of humanity. Those who clearly recognize the voice of their own conscience usually recognize also the voice of justice.”

ASD News and Views

The rich get richer, the poor....

Gas prices are strangling working people's standards of living, while the economy for Exxon Mobil Corp, which recorded the highest-ever quarterly profit in American history, is hunky dory. Meanwhile Exxon will escape full responsibility for personal damages to the lives of whole Alaskan communities related to the Exxon Valdez.

Activists have got to help other Americans cut through the shallow media analysis to see the giant conspiracy, patterns of class, race and gender exploitation. Any voter who does not have a class consciousness will surely be manipulated to vote against their own interests, while scapegoating other nationalities for the social problems whose source is the system of corporate capitalism.

There is no better time for us to help the public understand the nature of the system we live in.

Food for Thought

They are not the enemies of Israel. They are not the enemies of the Jewish people. We have Jewish people, we are not the enemy of these people. We are enemy of injustice. We are enemy of depravation. We are enemy of occupation. We are enemies of inhumanity. And that’s what people have to understand and see us as.

-- Monier Deeb speaking about the Free Gaza Movement on World Focus, KPFK-FM 8-3-08

In a new sign of increasing inequality in the U. S., the richest 1% of Americans in 2006 garnered the highest share of the nation's adjusted gross income for two decades, and possibly the highest since 1929, according to Internal Revenue Service data. Meanwhile, the average tax rate of the wealthiest 1% fell to its lowest level in at least 18 years. The group's share of the tax burden has risen, though not as quickly as its share of income.

-- Richest Americans See Their Income Share Grow By Jesse Drucker, The Wall Street Journal
