Condemning Imperialism?

The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming! The Russians have invaded Georgia (across their common border). While we believe in sovereignty, territorial integrity and the defense of any nation, which is invaded by a larger military power, we are simultaneously amazed at the irony of the verbiage used by US politicians and US news commentators on programs like today’s Meet the Press as they describe “Russian imperialism”.

If we are looking to the world’s leading example of imperialism we certainly do not have to look on the other side of the globe at a debilitated Russian political and military system. The good old USA is militarily occupying countries far from its borders and destabilizing the legitimate governments of its perceived rivals. The USA has its troops in 147 foreign countries and the US spends more on its military than all the rest of the world combined. US corporations dominate international economic relations and exert unfair advantage to remain on top. US corporate culture penetrates all other cultures. The US can veto almost any foreign policy initiatives it disagrees with. Meanwhile at home, the US corporate media does not only cover up this imperialist agenda, they actively disguise reality so Americans do not fully understand the nature of the US role in world affairs.

It is the role of Activist San Diego and all left-progressives to expose the cover-ups and shine light on the truth of the US’ aggressive role in the world. Please join us in this effort, be it in the Stop Blackwater campaign, the Activist Film Series, the Community Radio Project, preparation for the 2009 Counter-Inaugural Ball or participation in the SD Coalition for Peace and Justice. Contact us at info@ActivistSanDiego.org or 619-528-8383.

REMINDER: ASD Gen. meeting Mon. Aug 11th @ 6:30 (new location only for August with Food Not Lawns).
