ASD News and Views

THANKS to all the Activists who stepped forward to pledge their funds and support for ASD after our email request. You are heroes to us all and ASD pledges to step up our activities. TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE YET TO DONATE – please do it now, even at an easy $1 or $2 a month. We need everyone to give a little. Everyone starts with you. secure.groundspring.org

Please do not miss ASD’s next general meeting Oct. 13th and tell your friends to come. San Diego needs to be prepared for another stolen election. More

Activists should not miss the wonderful “War, Elections and Empire” Teach-in on Oct. 11th, noon which is co-endorsed by ASD. More

$850 BILLION BAIL OUT with more to come! Can you believe the scandal of a theft so enormous that it will not be paid off for generations? The captains of capitalism have ravaged the present as well as the future and wracked up bad loans exceeding the US national debt. Last year many CEO’s got $10-50 million bonuses for being so good at fraud. If someone ripped off every member of your family for $2000 and they were flaunting their spoils, would you not take immediate action? Why have we not risen up to at least denounce these pirates of private property? Why is there no rebellion?

Corporate greed has left us teetering on the brink of economic collapse and depression. It is working people who will suffer around the world. Is the left ready to respond? Make it your business to join an organization today, if not ASD itself then any one of a large number of other organizations that are willing to educate, organize and mobilize. Critical times call for a critical analysis and action, before the stolen billions are turned into political donations to maintain the status quo; a society of the wealthy, by the wealthy, ruled for the wealthy. Together we have the power to change that paradigm; it will take our unity and our creativity. Are you ready?

Food for Thought

"There are about 30 scams the Republicans are deliberately using, particularly in the swing states to get Democratic voters off the rolls. These scams originate in the so-called Help America Vote Act, which was passed after the Florida debacle in the year 2000. It was originally suggested by Democrats and Republicans, but it was passed by a Republican Congress with a Republican Senate and a Republican president. And instead of reforming what happened in Florida, it basically institutionalized all the problems that happened in Florida."

-- RFK Jr. and Mike Papantonio: "Is Your Vote Safe?"

~~~~~
"Freedom of expression and freedom of speech aren't really important unless they're heard… It's hard for me to stay silent when I keep hearing that peace is only attainable through war. And there's nothing more scary than watching ignorance in action. So I dedicated this Emmy to all the people who feel compelled to speak out and not afraid to speak to power and won't shut up and refuse to be silenced."
-- Tommy Smothers receiving commemorative writing achievement, Emmy Award
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 6PM: Stealing America: Vote By Vote. The American ideal is that every vote counts. Not true, according to this eye-opening documentary. For more than 20 years, exit polls accurately predicted U. S. election results. Over the last 10 years, that reliability has progressively disappeared. What’s going on? The last two presidential elections both came down to a relatively small number of votes, and in both elections the integrity of the voting process has been called into question. With the upcoming election looking to be similarly close, this film asks the questions: what happened in 2000 and 2004; what has changed since; and what can be done to ensure fair and honest vote counting? Dr. Pat Washington of UCSD will facilitate a discussion after the film. All programs are free and open to the public. Malcolm X Library 5148 Market Street. More Info
