CALL FOR NOMINATIONS for the Activist San Diego Board of Directors. Board of Directors nominations will be submitted by Monday, November 10, 2008 send to vasta@riseup.net. The vote will take place on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 7:00PM at ASD’s general meeting at 1090 Vermont St in Hillcrest ., San Diego, CA. A minimum of 2 seats and maximum of 4 seats are needed. New ASD Board members will be elected by secret ballot. ASD members are those who have participated in our activities and have donated the equivalent of $2 or more a month during the proceeding year. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 6:30PM: California Association of midwives, Activist San Diego Film Series and Gerri Ryan, LM, CPM proudly announce a free screening of Orgasmic Birth. A documentary that examines the intimate nature of birth and the powerful role it plays in woman's lives when they are permitted to experience it fully. A panel of midwives, doulas and childbirth educators will answer questions and lead an audience discussion exploring undisturbed birth - A Woman's Right to passage. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 7PM: Activist San Diego presents an evening with David Wiley & Jim Brown San Diego Veterans For Peace. The Suppression of Dissent. Joyce Beers Community Center, 1090 Vermont St, just north of University Ave., next to Trader Joe's, Hillcrest, SD Please use Ralph’s underground parking. David Wiley & Jim Brown of San Diego Veterans For Peace will discuss the increasing militarization of law enforcement and recount events that they witnessed in St. Paul Minnesota at the protests of the Republican National Convention in early September. Hundreds of protesters were arrested, including over 70 journalists. $5 Donations requested - no one will be turned away. More Info

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6-9, 2008: Doctors Without Borders Events in the San Diego area. EXHIBIT. A Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City. Presidents Way Lawn, Balboa Park(On Park Boulevard and Presidents Way). Please join us at this outdoor, interactive, educational exhibit made up of the actual materials used by MSF in its emergency medical work around the world. The exhibit asks visitors to imagine what it is like to be one of the world's 42 million refugees or internally displaced persons (IDPs) forced to flee their homes and seek refuge from war or conflict. Critical dates to note regarding Public Access TV Shows: The Shows air on Sundays at 6PM on COX 18 in North County and 23 in Southern San Diego. Opportunities for training and interviews exist at all shows. You can train to be: Camera Operators Floor Director Assistant Director Web Cast Director Character Generator Sound Engineer Producer We need 40 more people to attend the training to ensure deep support of our shows. The objective is for everyone to get their own show eventually. We will mutually support each other. All trainings are free! They are held at the COX Communications Studios in El Cajon. More Info
