ASD News and Views

An historic election – one that will change the world or lead us to a demoralized acceptance of the world as it is? Hope is all we have at the moment, unless we organize now... More on this in the future.

While the presidential election rocked the nation, many Californians were rocked by the surprise passage of Prop. 8 banning marriage to same-gender couples.

The reaction has been swift and powerful. All up and down the state demonstrations against Prop. H8 (hate) erupted. Here in San Diego there was a rally on Friday night then perhaps 30,000+ gay and straight marched up University Ave. in a spirited and defiant mile-long procession. Nothing like this has been seen in San Diego since the 2006 immigration march. Many of the organizers were young and new to activism. The potential is great to bringing new people into a flowering social movement.

Those of us who have been involve and those of us who are new to activism need to be connected, visible and involved. Our constituencies are seldom tied to other social justice causes. Joining together will make us all stronger. Our destinies are intertwined.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS for the Activist San Diego Board of Directors. Board of Directors nominations will be submitted by Monday, November 10, 2008 send to vasta@riseup.net. The vote will take place on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 7:00PM at ASD’s general meeting. More Info

We need your involvement, but we also ask you to please make a sustaining contribution to ASD today. We have a particular need to pay bills and back taxes so we can continue the good fight for peace, justice and equality. On the website it is easy for you to automatically donate just a few dollars a month for social justice. Do it today!
