The more details emerge, the clearer it becomes that Washington's handling of the Wall Street bailout is not merely incompetent. It is borderline criminal...

ASD News and Views

In January, 09 the Obama administration is going to be handed the helm of the ship of state. In this case the ship is sinking and the captains of industry and finance are jumping into their luxury lifeboats as quickly as possible. The battle to keep our collective boat afloat is going to be brutal. There may be no time to think about health care and social security and job security, education and disarmament, while the engine room is filling up with water.

Let us hope that the American collective memory is acute enough to remember how we got into this mess. The USS Empire ran into the same iceberg that has sunk previous empires - blind power and greed; the thought that God gave this nation the special right to violate international codes of conduct, launch preemptive wars to control oil resources and then pretend that its motives were the establishment of peace and democracy.

If the Obama administration recruits a crew of global expansionists and continues to insist that more troops are needed to fortify the occupation of Afghanistan, then it too will hit a wall of resistance and their ship will surely keep sinking. The role of social justice activists is to make the administration accountable for the greater good, not just for this nation, but also for the world’s people.

In short, the above is the theme of ASD’s January 24th People’s Ball, ‘The End of an Error; Celebrating a World of Change”. We want your help and involvement to put on an awesome event, which will fortify the bonds of our activist movements. Will you join us to get this event going? Your participatory and financial support of ASD keeps our engine room humming. Please give us a call, 619-528-8383.

Food for Thought

I am an American worker, and you are damn right I want the wealth to be shared and spread. I am talking about the wealth my hard work helped to create, but was taken from me by George Bush's base, the very rich, or as I know them, my corporate bosses. For the past eight years I have watched W.'s and McCain's (Country Club First) base grab the largest share of our country's wealth. Where did they take it from? They took it from my family's pocketbook, and my co-workers' families' pocketbooks. They stole the wealth that I was trying to build for me and my family when they stripped my pension plan from me and told me to invest in a 401k. This was a massive transfer of wealth from the workers' pockets into the already stuffed pockets of the rich.
