"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

-- Thomas Jefferson 1802

Bail out the bosses and the Boardrooms?!

“Bail out the bosses.” This is the message of the US automakers who came begging at the public trough for bailout bucks from, you guessed it, us - the taxpayers. “Too big to fail” was the refrain, as nearly a trillion dollars was committed from public coffers to private corporations.

“Bail out the bottom before the boardroom” – this should be our slogan. Why should the very people who got us into this economic crisis in the first place be rewarded with bailouts? While none of us want to see unionized jobs eliminated by the collapse of the US auto manufacturers, neither can we write the crooks a blank check that does not require them to make bigger sacrifices than the working people who have already suffered during the Bush-Reagan years .The recent example of the workers of Republic Windows & Doors factory who took over their factory when owners and their creditors, Bank of America, announced the plants closing.

ASD will take up the hot topic of the economic meltdown at out January 12th General meeting. Want to help us organize a ‘meltdown meeting? – Call us.

Join ASD, this Monday, Dec. 8th for a dynamic discussion on Prop 8 and the equality rights movement. ASD Members will be voting for new members of the Board of Directors at this meeting as well. Please make sure you come to vote.

The People’s Ball to be held on Saturday, Jan. 24th from 7:30 – 10:30 needs your help – Join us to help organize this gala people’s event. Call us at 619-528-8383 or info@ActivistSanDiego.org

Food for Thought

"As a Jew, I was ashamed at the scenes of Jews opening fire at innocent Arabs in Hebron. There is no other definition than the term 'pogrom' to describe what I have seen," he told Cabinet members, according to public radio.

"We are the sons of a nation who know what is meant by a pogrom, and I am using the word only after deep reflection."

-- Israeli PM Ehud Olmert comparing violence used by Jewish settlers against Palestinians in Hebron to bygone anti-Semitism in Europe. news.bbc.co.uk
