| HOLIDAYS
IN THE HOLY LANDS?
While
the holidays have many meanings to many people, for
most of us the season is crowned by the joy of having
quality time to spend with family and close friends.
During the holidays charity and giving are celebrated.
This
year our joy is tempered by the atrocities occurring
in the Gaza Strip. Primitive rockets fired from Gaza
by a few militants on Israel are a weak excuse for the
massive collective punishment of the Palestinian people
as a whole.
There
has been no charity and giving to the people of Gaza
as Israel has created a virtual ghetto with almost no
access to medicine, fuel, food, or even water for crops
and drinking. How can there be peace with these conditions?
Palestinians have lived as caged animals behind massive
walls, without even the right to fish off their own
shores. Holidays in the Holy lands is horrific as US
supplied F-16s and helicopter gunships fire on defenseless
populations. US and Bush Administration complicity is
indisputable. More

Pay
no attention to the handful of Christmas pardons granted
by Bush. This is mere political window dressing to distract
from the bumper crop of blanket absolutions, including
one for himself, scheduled to be released just before
midnight on Jan 19th. Cheney would not so arrogantly
be bragging on TV about how he authorized torture if
it were not so.

| TUESDAY,
DECEMBER 30, 4PM: Emergency Mobilization In Solidarity
With Gaza And The Palestinian People. San Diego Federal
Building - Front and Broadway. Activist San Diego will
be working with others to call for an EMERGENCY response
to the horrendous crimes occurring because of the Israeli
aggression. ASD will be a part of any actions that takes
place to protest the strafing, wholesale brutality,
purposeful denial of food and fuel to civilian populations,
the bombing of the University of Gaza, the destruction
of vital infrastructure and the deaths of 300+ including
large numbers of civilians. Our experience has been
that the US public and the corporate news media have
very short attention spans and for that reason we need
to plan for an immediate action. Al-Awda, Awda, NCA,
FPA and expect that ADC, SDCPJ, MECIC, members of the
Jewish peace community, ANSWER and others will also
co-sponsor. More

JANUARY 24, 2009: Save The Date: ASD People's Ball.
The "People's Ball" was started in 2000 actually

of the Inaugural Ball in Washington. People came dressed
in gowns and black tie to costumes of hanging chads.
Since the first ball the name has changed to the People's
ball. This is an event for all organizations, unions,
organizers, media and community members to come together
learn about each other and just kick off your shoes
and celebrate. Balboa Park Club Ballroom, Balboa Park,

| MONDAY,
DECEMBER 29, 12PM: Save Friendship Park - Press Conference.
The Department of Homeland Security sealed off friendship
circle and Monument at Friendship Park. The only area
designated along the entire US/Mex border for bi-national
communication and friendship. In preparation for the
construction of a 15 ft wall, they have also uprooted
the bi-national friendship garden on the US side - plans
to move forward with the demolition of Friendship Park
are imminent, despite continued outcry by the public
and elected officials. The press conference will take
place at the entry gate to Border Field State Park.
