Nobody living can ever stop me, As I go walking that freedom highway; Nobody living can ever make me turn back This land was made for you and me.

ASD News and Views

Activist San Diego's 2009 Peoples Ball was indeed a celebration worthy of our social justice community. It is the organizing of people like ourselves who helped turn the political tide toward the progressive. The Ball was also designed to raise funds so that ASD can continue to be a better information, communications and mobilization hub in the border region. We still need several thousand dollars to sustain us at full strength in the coming period. We ask you to become a donor or sustainer today at ANY level you consider appropriate by clicking on https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=5966

This is the superb poem that Ernie McCray, the People's Ball MC, wrote for the occasion! People's Ball Poem: Gathered Here Together to Feel All Right.

Food for Thought

There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me; Sign was painted, it said private property; But on the back side it didn't say nothing; That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people, By the relief office I seen my people; As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking Is this land made for you and me?

-- "This Your Land is Your Land" verses that have been censored from the song over the years to make it less political: truthout.org/011909R

"Housing might be in worse shape than we think. There is probably even more excess housing inventory gumming up the market than current statistics indicate, thanks to a wave of foreclosures that has yet to hit the market. The problem: Many foreclosed homes and other distressed properties that are now owned by banks have yet to be listed for sale. The volume of this so-called 'ghost inventory' could be substantial enough to depress already steeply falling prices when it does go on the market."

-- Flood of Foreclosures: It's Worse Than You Think. truthout.org/012509A
