| Join
us for May Day 2009
May
Day is celebrated around the world, an international
labor day, a day of solidarity; a day to celebrate the
source of all the goods and the fact that all the wealth
ever created comes from the hands of workers. May Day
is also a commemoration of the struggles of working
people who forced powerful capitalists to end child
labor, reform labor laws, create pension plans, respect
seniority rights, form unions of the oppressed and who
campaigned for a 40-hour work week with vacations, sick
pay, social security and medical benefits.
May
Day is for radicals like the Chicago martyrs who organized
for the radical notion of an 8-hour day and were gunned
down in Chicago by the police. In our lifetime May Day
has become a day to champion the rights of immigrant
workers taking to the streets by the millions for the
“radical” belief that we are all created
equal and deserve dignity and human rights.
Activist
San Diego urges you joint us at the 2009 May 1st Coalition
rally and march for immigrant rights and human rights
and to stop to the ICE raids, detentions and deportations
and to support the right to migrate, to support the
Employee Free Choice Act and equal access to education.
Be a radical on May 1st by standing up for the rational!

| The
(torture) memos justify 10 techniques, including banging
heads into walls 30 times in a row, prolonged nudity,
repeated slapping, dietary manipulation, and dousing
with cold water as low as 41 degrees. They allow shackling
in a standing position for 180 hours, sleep deprivation
for 11 days, confinement of people in small dark boxes
with insects for hours, and waterboarding to create
the perception they are drowning. Moreover, the memos
permit many of these techniques to be used in combination
for a 30-day period. They find that none of these techniques
constitute torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

The
Pentagon and Homeland Security Department are developing
contingency plans to send National Guard troops to the
US-Mexican border under a $350 million initiative that
would expand the US military's role in the war on drugs,
according to Obama administration officials. The circumstances
under which the troops could be deployed have not been
determined, the officials said.
