ASDers, Community Radio Supporters,

ASD did the impossible; submitted a $187,000 radio equipment grant (NTIA/PTFP)
-- and we believe we have a good shot at getting it!! We will know between July and October.

You will be proud to know that our team got it done and are still good friends.

A huge debt of gratitude to Jay and Todd Ratzesberger for the Radio grant. Stu and Matt R. helped early on. Kathy stayed up late last night editing and did lots in the days prior. John Falchi guided and wrote the important financial piece. Irma Cordova transcribed and edited.

Todd Urich in Davis was heroic and we owe him thanks and some compensation. We should raise and send him about $700 so he could get about half the minimum wage for his brilliant efforts -- unbelievable what this media activist knows and was able to do for San Diego.

We finished the 20- part grant for the radio at 11 pm Monday --- yeah. We started at 7 am... Wow 15 hours today with 3 people to just print and collate it then get it out.

Can you believe a 20 lb grant package to mail off to DC?

We now need you to help make an outreach plan, a fund raising plan and push on the Mexican FCC/govt to rubber stamp the US FCC approval.

With Appreciation! martin

Food for Thought

“Junk TV,” he called the show, accusing NBC, the network that broadcast it, of “perpetuating banality and contributing to the dehumanization of the industry.”

-- actor Pernell Roberts, Star of TV’s ‘Bonanza,’ Dies at 81

~~~~~
Wow. I heard Rep. Duncan Hunter on NPR yesterday attempting to explain why he is against the repeal of “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” My ears actually hurt as I heard him say that if you let gays serve openly, the military would let in anyone regardless of their “sexual preference” – gays, bisexuals, transgenders, hermaphrodites. Yes, hermaphrodites. That was just the beginning of a short interview in which a surprisingly large body of myopic and homophobic beliefs were revealed. It’s one thing to be ignorant; another to proudly display it.
