The United Nations Association of San Diego (UNASD) will host “Our Planet, Our Responsibility: 65 Years of the United Nations,” on October 23 from 11:15 AM to 2:00 PM at the Prado Restaurant in Balboa Park. The charity luncheon, celebrating the 65th anniversary of the United Nations, will honor top community contributors during an awards ceremony, as well as feature a silent auction and live entertainment. All proceeds will go to UNASD’s educational programs, which benefit San Diego students, and UNICEF.

UN Day, an annual celebration that began in 1948, marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter on October 24, 1945.

The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Reno L. Harnish III, former Ambassador to Azerbaijan and Director of the Center for Environment and National Security at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Harnish, who served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs before coming to San Diego, will speak to his broad experience in international efforts to preserve the environment.

Tickets to “Our Planet, Our Responsibility: 65 Years of the United Nations” are available through UNASD.
