Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101asd_choices: ASD Featured Event San Diego Veterans For Peace to honor Iraq/Afghanistan fallen service members from Southern California on Memorial Day Who: San Diego Veterans For Peace – Chapter 91 - 100 veteran and associate members When: Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th, from 8 am until 6 PM Where: USS Midway Museum lawn, 910 N. Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA 92101 What: Chapter veteran and associate members will be setting up a “Hometown Arlington West” memorial on the lawn in front of the USS Midway Museum. The memorial, consisting of 275 personalized headstone markers, modeled after those found in the Arlington National Cemetery, will honor the service men and women, from the four southernmost counties in California (San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Los Angeles), who have died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The public and press is invited to assist chapter veterans and associates in setting out (8 AM) and later removing (6 PM) the markers from the lawn. During the day, the public may participate in several public readings of the 275 names, and are encouraged to pray or meditate out among the markers, where folding chairs will be placed. A large memory book will be available for those wishing to offer their thoughts about the memorial or the ongoing conflicts, with the memory book to then be mailed to President Obama. Why: San Diego Veterans For Peace is a 501-C-3 veterans educational organization that continually honors our fallen brothers and sisters while reminding the public about the overall costs of war.
