Rally, march, vigil in memory of Mathew Sheppard who was brutally murdered in 1998. Matthew was a charismatic out gay person and a budding activist, just being "out of the closet" in his time and place was a radical act. The evidence from the site where he was found indicated a brutal death. This kind of violent crime happens frequently to members of the LGBT community, but what set this event apart from other gay bashing was that his community immediately rallied and made a stand. It was a beautiful moment of courage for the LGBT community rising out of the anguish of loss.
