Come help manage invasive plants in Mission Bay to protect endangered birds!

This is an exciting opportunity on an otherwise off-limits island! We will be working to remove invasive plants from FAA Island. We’re doing this to promote nesting by the California Least Tern (an endangered species) and create space for native coastal dune plants.

The event will be on April 3rd, 2016 from 9:30am-12:30pm. Departure location will depend on the number of participants, but we will either be leaving from Seaforth Boat Rentals (1641 Quivira Road) or the De Anza boat dock. More specific directions will follow closer to the date.

A boat will shuttle volunteers onto the island so please do not be late as we cannot return for late arrivals. RSVPs are required, and please plan on being 15 minutes early so the boat can leave at 9:30 am.

Volunteers should wear long pants and sturdy shoes, and sun/rain protection as weather indicates. Work gloves will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own pair if available. We’ll have water, but don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle for refills!

Please note that there are no bathroom facilities on the island and due to its difficult accessibility, we cannot accommodate early departures. Questions/Directions/RSVP: Call or email our Conservation Project Coordinator, Megan Flaherty. flaherty@sandiegoaudubon.org or (858) 273-7800 x106.
