SAN DIEGO (April 12, 2016) — The League of Women Voters of San Diego, in

partnership with KNSJ 89.1 FM, announced today that it will conduct a series of

candidate forums in advance of the June 7 California primary. The forums will

include candidates for San Diego Mayor, City Council District 9 and San Diego

City Attorney, as well as others. These events will be conducted according to the

guidelines of the League of Women Voters, which will also moderate and time

the forums, as well as screen questions. Questions will be submitted in advance

by local news organizations and community groups, and attendees will also have

an opportunity to pose questions of the candidates.

“One of the League’s primary purposes is to encourage informed and active

participation in government,” says Jeanne Brown, president of the League of

Women Voters of San Diego. “We are pleased to create a forum where we can

increase the voting public’s knowledge of our candidates and their positions.”

The series is scheduled as follows:

• Sat., 4/23 6-8pm Mayoral Debate, First Church of the Brethren

• Wed., 4/27 6-8pm City Council District 9, First Church of the Brethren

• Sat., 5/14 6-8pm San Diego City Attorney, Thomas Jefferson School of

• Wed., 5/25 6-8pm Meet the Candidates, San Diego Central Library

Co-sponsor KNSJ 89.1 FM will stream each forum live and also prepare candidate

perfectly with our commitment to high quality radio.”

The format of each forum includes a two-minute opening statement by each

candidate. Then each candidate will have one minute to answer each question

posed by panelists comprised of a League member and/or local media

representatives and/or community group representatives. The forum will

conclude with a one-minute closing statement by each candidate. Although

candidates will be seated alphabetically, a coin toss will establish the order of

opening and closing statements.
