San Diego Berners of diverse perspectives are convening a Convention to plan next steps for the political revolution! Hear report-backs from inside and outside the Philadelphia Convention; participate in workshops on running local candidates, the Jill Stein Campaign, and overturning Citizens United. Come with your ideas and proposals on building a populist movement for economic and social justice. #NOTMEUS!

1. Report Back from Democratic Convention (15 minutes)
Bernie delegates and others who went to the DNC in Philly will be sharing their experiences

2. What next for the political revolution? (15 minutes)

A. The Jill Stein Campaign and building a party for the 99%
Presenter: Cecile Veillard and Rick Greenblatt
Synopsis: This workshop will be presented by two members of the San Diego for Jill Stein Grassroots Committee. This is the perfect workshop to attend if you want to learn more about Jill Stein’s Campaign, how to get involved to support her candidacy through November, and help us grow the Green Party and an independent progressive politics through this effort.

B. November Ballot Measures (Citizens United and Legalizing Marijuana)
Presenter: Kelly King

C. Creating a progressive alliance for non-partisan races
Presenter: Jose Caballero & Ann Menasche
Synopsis: Independents, Greens and progressives united to take over City government in Richmond, California against Chevron and corporate-supported candidates. Decades earlier Bernie accomplished something similar in Burlington, Vermont. Can we do the same in San Diego? Join this important discussion!

D. Criminal Justice Reform Work in California: Prop 57 Early Release for Prisoners
Presenter: Darwin Fishman
Invited Guests: Reclaim the Community, ACLU and the SD Organizing Project
Synopsis: This workshop will be devoted to a discussion of Proposition 57 in California and why we need to support this proposition as a critical part of the criminal justice work we all need to be engaged in. This specific proposition would help people in prison now with early release and it would provide youth opportunities to avoid adult courts and the school to prison pipeline. Come to this workshop to learn about criminal justice work in California and how you can get involved in this work!

E. Reforming Our Political System
Presenter: Christian Flores-Carignan
Synopsis: This workshop will discuss the corrupting role of big money in politics as well as the limitations of our electoral system. The differences between the two party system and proportional representation will be highlighted. We will end with a discussion on the specific reforms needed and the strategies for getting those proposals passed into law. F. Why Your Vote Won’t be Counted

G. Planning and creating citizen media in San Diego
Presenter: Michael Russell
Synopsis: Six International Corporations Control All Broadcast Media in the U.S., so it doesn’t matter what you want or what you say, no one will hear you. Regardless of the issue, without a medium of distribution, you can never change people minds. There is no progressive media broadcast in San Diego. Until we have a voice, nothing else matters.

H. Creating a life-sustaining economy and future in the San Diego/Tijuana Region

Synopsis: The minimum that those alive over the next 60 years need to accomplish and how to cost-effectively accomplish them to improve contemporary life and to leave our descendants their best chance to live in a prosperous, peaceful and life-support sustaining future.
