Join San Diego Audubon staff and volunteers as we advocate for seabirds, like albatross and petrels.

By-catch (the unintentional capture of wildlife by fishing gear) is one of the most serious threats to seabirds, resulting in the death of hundreds of thousands of birds every year. Pelagic longline fisheries - fisheries which employ fishing line/hooks that drag for up to 50 miles, often left for days at a time - are one of the most deadly to these birds. We will be opposing the proposed opening of one of these fishies off of our coastline.

We will have the opportunity to provide public comment at the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting (the federal body that oversees fisheries management), and we would love to have you show up for seabirds. We will provide talking points, and we appreciate your presence even if you don't choose to speak.

Find out how to get involved by contacting the San Diego Audubon's Restoration Program Manager, Megan Flaherty, at flaherty@sandiegoaudubon.org.
