Join us! Our coalition is supporting youth organizing actions at high schools and universities in San Diego County and workers who are walking out to support them. Mark your calendar. Save the date. Being updated… Contact Masada (masada@sandiego350.org or 619-277-4594 with questions). Friday, September 20th San Diego High School (Downtown San Diego) - Meet at school entrance at 12:15 pm. March to City Hall, rally 1-2 pm, march back to school. Mission Bay High School (Pacific Beach) -Meet at front of school at 12:00 pm. Walk to the marsh to rally in support of climate action and ReWild the Bay. Will meet up with the Audubon event (see below). La Jolla High School - Meet at the entrance to the school at 2:30 pm. Students will rally just outside the school entrance, along a busy street. Serra High School (Tierrasanta)- Meet at the entrance to the school at 12:25 pm. Students will rally just outside the school entrance until 1:15 pm. University City High School with Standley Middle School: (link coming soon) - lunch time, UTC. Meeting on the Quad and walking to Standley Park. Bonita Vista High School (Chula Vista) - The students will be rallying only on campus, but the public can support from the other side of the fence. Begins at 11:37 am in front of the main office. Colleges and Universities San Diego State University, 11:30 am on campus at Hepner Hall. ReWild Mission Bay - 11:45 at the marsh and will join up with the Mission Bay High School event (see above). Hosted by SD Audubon. Miramar Community Walkout 12-1 pm- hosted by Sullivan Solar and neighboring businesses, 8949 Kenamar Drive., a great option for climate-friendly businesses who want to network. Climate Walkouts on Other Dates Vista City Hall (Vista), Friday, Sept 27 at 3:15-5 pm - Sit-in to demand a stronger climate action plan. Led by students at Rancho Buena Vista and Vista Mission High Schools. at High Tech High in Point Loma for the climate strike. Let's support our students. We will be dead as doorknobs soon, but they won't, and they will suffer even worse than we will. At schools, universities, and workplaces all over the world, people of all ages will walk out on 9/20/19 to demand their governments tackle the climate crisis. The #ClimateStrike will start a week of action surrounding a United Nations climate summit. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/may/23/greta-thunberg-you... “We’re asking adults to step up alongside us,” an international group of youth strikers wrote. “Step out of your comfort zone to make this a turning point in our history. This is about crossing lines – it’s about rebelling wherever one can rebel.” SanDiego350, a climate action nonprofit, will provide resources and support to help students organize powerful actions at schools throughout San Diego County. Your event: You could just make a sign and stand with it. Or you could plan a day full of activities and music with a team of volunteers. Or anything in between. You might march or make art or dance. It is up to you. We are here to help with ideas, information, logistics, coaching, and skills training. Use whatever parts of this toolkit are helpful for your event. Connections: We can connect you with organizers at other high schools and colleges in the local region, to share ideas and planning.
