Local Veterans Encourage The Public NOT To Attend the September Miramar Air Show

The San Diego chapter of Veterans For Peace, this year supported and endorsed by other local community groups, will be bannering and demonstrating above the I-15 and the I-5 freeways during the month of September, encouraging the public NOT to attend the upcoming Miramar Air Show.

Who:

Chapter members of the San Diego Veterans For Peace, veteran and associate members, plus support from several local community groups in San Diego.

When/Where:

Carroll Canyon Overpass of the I-15 freeway, 4 to 6 PM, Thursdays 9/5, 9/12, 9/19 and Friday 9/27 (Scripps Ranch area)

6th Avenue Overpass of the I-5 Freeway Downtown, 4 to 6 PM, Tuesdays 9/3, 9/10, 9/17 and 9/24 (Downtown )

Why:

This is the 4th year that local veterans have encouraged the public to stay home and provide their family with more wholesome entertainment. The annual Miramar Air Show glorifies war with an exciting and colorful show of speed, power and noise. It celebrates the skills and machinery that exist to kill, maim, and destroy. It is dangerous - 10% of all Blue Angel pilots have been killed in accidents and Miramar jets have already crashed in San Diego neighborhoods. It is a costly and polluting event, and it serves as a very misleading recruiting tool for our often at risk youth.
