Michael Turner-Ortega

Our Feature For July is Michael Turner-Ortega
The eagle and the condor are symbols of dignity, unity, and spirit for Peace & Dignity relay runner poet Michael Turner-Ortega. The relay run for world peace in all communities and all nations occurs every four years with runners, starting from Fairbanks, Alaska, carrying eagle staffs from each tribe's land the runners pass through on their way to Peru. There they meet up with runners from the south carrying condor staffs that began their relay from the Tierra Del Fuego area. Michael has run in this relay twice helping to carry the eagle staffs as his Tarahumara and Mayan blood helped him resonate with the wisdom & endurance of his ancestors.
Michael's pen and paper have also witnessed many miles as poetry and creative writing teacher in the mental health community with Creative Arts Consortium, as Vietnam Veteran, Cultural Worker, & Eagle & Condor Confederation of First Nation People.
Michael recently featured for The Institute of Poetic Medicine as a veteran for peace on Zoom. No one reads & recites like this gifted poet, a frequent visitor to many San Diego Open Mics. Michael is truly a San Diego treasure; a carrier of indigenous wisdom, feeling, & healing. On Zoom at Meeting ID: 886 345 934
