About the event: Reforming the foster care system & allowing youth to reconnect & build with their cultural identities is very important. If you would like to become a resource parent to our foster youth in San Diego, please join The People's Alliance for Justice along with Livewell San Diego and the county of San Diego on Tuesday September 29, 2020 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM PT. This event will feature a panel discussion with San Diego county executives, former foster youth, social workers, foster parents and community activists for a discussion on decreasing disproportionality in the foster care system. Nearly 20% of San Diego county's foster care population are African American children and youth and nearly 80% of black youth are placed in non-relative placements away from their families and communities. We are holding a downhill discussion to have a comprehensive conversation with the county of San Diego on how to improve relations between the foster care system and communities who are disproportionate in the child welfare system. This discussion allows you to have a direct conversation with policy and government leaders on what needs to change to ensure foster care systems become more culturally inclusive and competent.

Featuring Special Guests:

Kim Giardina, Director, Child Welfare Services San Diego County
