In the wake of devasting but narrow passage of Proposition 8 LGBT rights activists are seeing the reemergence of the Gay Rights movement in the form of boycotts, pickets, and demonstrations across the nation. The movement for LGBT rights has greatly expanded sexual freedom, but many challenges confront the struggle for equality. Socialists offer a Marxist analysis that links today’s struggle for equal rights to a future based on genuine liberation. Sherry Wolf is the author of the forthcoming book Sexuality and Socialism: History, Politics and Theory of Gay Liberation (Haymarket Books, 2009). She is on the editorial board of the International Socialist Review and is a founding member of Equal Marriage Now! Wolf is the author of "The Myth of the Black-Gay Divide" at http://socialistworker.org/2008/11/11/myth-of-the-black-gay-divide.
